Brief
Summary:
Chiune Sugihara was the Japanese vice consul
stationed in Kovno, Lithuania, in 1940. Following the division of Poland by nazi
Germany and the Soviet Union, Sugihara issued thousands of transit visas after
he had wired his government three times for permission to issue visas to the
Jewish refugees. Three times he was denied. . The visas enabled the refugees who
were fleeing from the Nazi to cross the Soviet Union then take a ship from the
Russian port of Vladivostok to Japan, where they were permitted to stay a short
time, before heading for other countries.

劇 情﹕外交官杉原千畝遠赴立陶宛就任，但沒多久第二次世界大戰爆發了。德國納粹控制了波蘭的西部地區，對波蘭人的殘害開始了。而立陶宛也將被併吞，日本領事館收到了閉館的命令。就在那時，日本領事館湧來了從波蘭逃來的猶太難民，迫切要求給予前往日本的簽證。千畝再三打電報向日本外交部請求允許他發給猶太難民簽證，可是要求最終仍被拒絕。但是…在離退職回國只剩下一個月時，千畝決意違抗命令，向猶太難民發放簽證。
本片長期在立陶宛進行外景拍攝，並沒有在日本國內取景，片中真正的歐羅巴風情美的街巷。演員們逼真的演技，立陶宛當地熱情的臨時演員，這所有的一切，造就了這部宏偉的人文電視劇。
