BRIEF SUMMARY: Code Blue Generally used to indicate a patient requiring immediate resuscitation, most often as the result of a cardiac arrest. May also be used as a radio call to indicate that a patient en route to the hospital requires resuscitation. The drama's full title is "Code Blue: Doctor Heli Kinkyu Kyumei." The concept is based on Japan's proposal for an emergency medical service using helicopters to quickly reach those in need. A special bill was passed in June 2007 that should foster widespread adoption of the system. Yamashita stars as a young doctor-in-training, working under the guidance of an experienced "flight doctor" (Toshiro Yanagiba). Some scenes will be filmed with a real helicopter, adding to the show's tension.
It has been one and a half years since Aizawa Kosaku, Shiraishi Megumi, Hiyama Mihoko, and Fujikawa Kazuo were assigned to Shoyo University’s North Hospital. They have only three months left of their fellowship programme (specialized training programme) to be flight doctors and each of them has come to the crossroads where they have to think about their lives after graduation. Aizawa, who has only one relative – a grandmother currently in a nursing home, starts having doubts about his duties and cannot find a clear direction for his future. Meanwhile, Shiraishi Megumi is unable to forget the past. She had caused their former teacher, Kuroda Shuji, to have his right arm amputated. Then Tachibana Keisuke, a veteran flight doctor, takes up a new post. He has been put in charge of certifying the fellowship programme which will decide their future …
With more than 10 years of experience as doctors, Aizawa Kosaku (Yamashita Tomohisa), Shiraishi Megumi (Aragaki Yui), Hiyama Mihoko (Toda Erika), Saejima Haruka (Higa Manami) and Fujikawa Kazuo (Asari Yosuke) have taken different paths in their professional and private lives. Aizawa left the emergency room of Shoyo University-affiliated Northern Hospital and devotes himself to surgeries every day with the aim of further self-improvement as a neurosurgeon. Megumi has been struggling as the staff leader of flight doctors at the short-handed emergency room while Mihoko who had once set her sights on becoming a flight doctor, left the hospital and chose to be a gynecologist at a perinatal medical center. Haruka is still a flight nurse and an ace in the profession. Fujikawa has also become an emergency doctor specializing in orthopedic surgery and supports the hospital’s emergency service together with Megumi. New fellows Natori Soma (Arioka Daiki), Haitani Shunpei (Narita Ryo), Yokomine Akari (Araki Yuko) arrive at the emergency room with the aim of becoming flight doctors while Yukimura Futaba (Baba Fumika) wants to be a flight nurse. As everyone laments that the four are useless, Megumi has no choice but to attempt to train and make the staff. Meanwhile, Shinkai Hiroki (Ando Masanobu), a strong rival to Aizawa, shows up. There is a contest in the Department of Neurosurgery to choose a doctor for the prestigious Toronto University.
