BRIEF SUMMARY:
In 1895 (Meiji 28), Nonaka Itaru (Sato Ryuta),
a commoner who accomplished what was believed to be impossible by climbing Mt
Fuji in midwinter, had built a private hut on the mountain’s summit. He headed
there to stay alone in the winter so that he could observe the weather even
though it might be at the cost of his own life. His wife Chiyoko (Matsushima Nao)
was convinced that her husband would certainly die if he was alone. In order to
join him, she hid this plan from the people around her, deceived her
mother-in-law (Yo Kimiko) and did everything possible to finally carry it out.
On the summit of Mt Fuji in midwinter – a feat no one had yet achieved, husband
and wife battled the cold and altitude sickness as they began their
