電影以日本傳統的落語為主題，津川在戲中演一名好色的落語家.
須美是落語界少見的女落語師，雖然目前只是個初出茅廬的前座，但她對落語的熱愛決不亞於任何人，正拚命努力向更高的台階邁進。香須美總是第一個到後台，
東忙西忙沒有一刻休息，有時還要給前輩們打雜。然而傳統藝能界是屬於男人的天下。平時常有這樣的議論飄進耳朵：「女人還演落語啊……」，而到了台上，她又必須面對老觀眾冷冷的目光。
最讓香須美頭痛的是師傅三三亭平佐（津川雅彥飾）。師傅曾有「新作平佐」的美譽，是受矚目的落語師，但他不羈的行事風格惹來了不少麻煩。最近，平佐幾乎不登台表演了。他一味耽於玩樂，根本不和香須美一道排練，由於之前在電視節目中諷刺現任政界要員，媒體也都對他敬而遠之，最近甚至債主也找上了門來。
